2016: A Year of HOPE

2016 was an amazing year of ministry for us here at LIVING Ministry. Not only were we able to serve in greater capacities, but God also used the ministry in incredible ways to train and equip others to do the same. From weekly shelter visits, to monthly celebrations, God's fingerprints were all over the ministry and it was noticeable! We praise God for the hope he uncovered in and through us:

Men's Ministry

6 homeless shelters were visited 520 times where over 700 homeless men were met

Darrell graduated the last round of Project LIFE. He moved into his own apartment and landed a cooking job

Closer Walk saw 8 homeless men participate, each showing significant growth in their faith

Scott and Josh took men to Pirates’ games, the US Open, and the Man Up conference this year


Women's ministry

5 homeless shelters were visited 145 times where over 250 homeless women were met

Anna and Mary travelled 7772 miles and spent 10 days serving the homeless in Paris, France

4 quarterly events were hosted which brought together over 70 homeless women

5 women joined Anna and Tori at the Pittsburgh Marathon 5K

2 baby showers were thrown for women who had been living in tents outside

A new empowerment group was started to help women understand the importance of physical, emotional and spiritual health

volunteers

110 volunteers braved the cold and participated in one of the ministry’s sleepout events. The average temperature for the sleepouts was 28 degrees.

73 people joined the ministry to run one of the Pittsburgh Marathon events. Altogether, the ministry raised over $27,000 from those runners

In partnership with the CCO, 30 college students joined the ministry for an experiential service-learning trip during their spring or fall breaks

Over 220 volunteers joined the ministry on a street outreach in 2016. Many of those volunteers came multiple times


CelebrationS

10 people participated in this year’s Stations of the Cross event where they not only heard the Gospel, but got a chance to experience God’s love on the cross in a tangible way

228 people attended this year’s Benefit Dinner in May—the largest crowd in the ministry’s history.

94 people attended the ministry’s donor and volunteer appreciation dinner. Those in attendance contributed more than $43,000 to the ministry in 2016.

Almost 80 people joined the ministry for our annual 4th of July party and enjoyed a plethora of food, fun and fellowship

55 people attended the ministry’s Thanksgiving celebration. These people consisted of board members, major donors, volunteers, staff, and the homeless and formerly homeless.

The ministry hosted 2 Christmas parties that saw over 100 people in attendance. Both events were great times to reflect on God’s great gift to us. 


                                                                            MissionarieS

The ministry was blessed with 16 staff and interns in 2016. Altogether, these folks gave over 17900 hours of time to serving the homeless. A special thanks goes out to Eric, Adam, Josh, Tori, Anna, Scott, Elena, Charles, Jared, Jeff, Lydia, Daymon, Bethany, Madison, Ally, and Helena for their service


Northside Homeless Alliance                

124 people from the Northside community attended a Knowledge Session where they gained a more accurate understanding of the problems of homelessness.

350 volunteers came together to put on ALIVE 2016. They served food and distributed clothing to over 500 people.

76 people attended the Finding Ways Home Conference where they learned practical ways to care for the homeless

1500 meals were served each Thursday evening in partnership with Cityview Church. After providing initial support, the dinner is now completely run and sustained by the church and serves 30 people every week.

4 homeless camps were cleaned as we removed over 6 tons of garbage. 2 of those camps were closed indefinitely


Housing

Niki, Brittany, Mike, Yvette, Amanda and Anthony, Valesha and Mark, Matt, Alfonso, Brian and Sharon, Dave and Rick, Chuck, Anthony, Darrell, Ricky, Allen and Kim, Marty, and Jojo all were helped by the ministry to get set up in their new apartments. Several had been homeless for over 3 years
